DedicatedMac offers flexible access to Apple devices through tailored subscription plans. We host our own Mac computers in a secure data center in Phoenix, AZ, providing you with a remote desktop connection directly to our machines. No virtual machines are involved, ensuring full administrative privileges. After your session, we ensure all data is removed, or, if you prefer, we can retain your data so you can resume from where you left off. ### How do I access the rented Mac after purchasing a plan? After purchasing a plan, you will receive an email containing the credentials for remote desktop access to the macOS desktop. We recommend using our preferred remote desktop client for the best performance — it's free for non-commercial use and can be downloaded for free. After connecting, you will have full access and control through the machine's admin user. ### Can I install my own software on the rented Mac? Yes, with full administrative privileges, you're free to install any software necessary for your tasks. ### What happens after I purchase a plan? After the transaction is complete, you will be redirected to our User Portal, where you will be able to access your Mac credentials, manage your subscription, and keep track of the time remaining. You will also receive an email containing all the needed information to both access your Mac instance and log in to the User Portal in the future. ### What are the specifications of the Macs available for rent? We currently offer the Mac Mini M4 with a 10-core CPU, 16GB or 24GB unified memory, and 256GB or 512GB SSD depending on your plan. The network speed you can expect is around 700 Mbps to 1 Gbps download speed and approximately 200 Mbps upload speed. ### Is my data secure during the rental period, and what happens to it afterward? Yes, we prioritize your data security by using advanced encryption and secure server configurations. After your session, we ensure all data is removed by performing a full system wipe. ### What should I do if I need to restart or reset the password on my rented Mac? You are free to restart the machine at any time. We are always here to help you with a locked account, password reset, or software installation. Just drop us an email at support@dedicatedmac.io and we will support you promptly. ### Can I use the rented Mac for software development, such as Xcode or iOS app development? Yes, our rented Macs are fully equipped to support software development tasks. With full administrative privileges, you can install and configure development environments like Xcode, run simulators, connect to your Apple Developer account, and publish directly to the App Store. ### Can I connect a USB device to a remote Mac? Yes, you can connect USB devices, including iPhones, to a remote Mac through third-party tools. We recommend USB Network Gate (works across macOS, Windows, and Linux) and FlexiHub (supports macOS, Windows, Linux, and Android). Both options require installation on both machines and offer free trials. ### Is it possible to upgrade the hardware specifications of the rented Mac during my rental period? Our Macs come with fixed hardware configurations. If you require higher specifications, please contact our support team to discuss available options or consider selecting a plan that meets your performance needs. ### How do I transfer my files? Our recommended remote desktop client provides an integrated File Manager to upload and download any type of file between your current device and the remote Mac. ### Am I able to select the macOS version I want to boot into? Our instances come with a pre-installed macOS version — currently macOS 26 Tahoe. We can remotely upgrade the OS to the latest version, but we cannot install a specific older macOS version. ### Do you provide port-forwarding? I need to run an HTTP server on the Mac. We don't provide port forwarding directly, but you can achieve this by using a tunnel instead. Services like Cloudflare Tunnel, ngrok, or Tailscale make this straightforward. ### What software is pre-installed on the instances? We don't install additional software other than what you find on a fresh Mac installation. You have full admin access to install anything you need. ## Technical Details Questions from our more technical users. Here we explain details of the network and the system. ### Do you provide full root or administrator access to the macOS system? Yes, we provide an administrator user with full control without restrictions. ### Is it possible to access the machine during boot or recovery (e.g. via KVM or similar)? Currently the connection is only through our remote desktop client. You can use other remote access software as well, but KVM-level connection is not available. ### Do you support reinstallation or recovery of macOS if needed? Yes, but that would take time since it requires manual intervention from our tech team. Contact support@dedicatedmac.io if you need this. ### Is there a firewall or access control panel available to manage inbound/outbound connections? We don't offer that level of control to the firewall at this time. You can configure the built-in macOS firewall through System Settings. ### What is the actual internet speed (download/upload) I can expect? You can expect around 1 Gbps download and 200 Mbps upload speed. Our data center in Phoenix, AZ provides low-latency connections across the United States. ### What is the physical location of the remote Macs you provide? Our data center is located in Phoenix, Arizona (US West Region). This provides excellent connectivity and low latency across the United States. ### Do you offer dedicated IPv4 and IPv6 addresses (e.g. /64 subnet)? We do not currently allow that level of customization of the network. ### Is CI/CD usage (e.g. automated builds, testing, simulators) allowed? Yes, absolutely. You can run any type of workload on the rented machine, including CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and simulator testing. ### Is the Mac mini M4 I'm renting fully dedicated, or is it shared? It's fully dedicated. You get the Mac mini all to yourself — no other users, no virtualization, no multi-tenant environment. ### How do I connect using Tailscale, and where do I find my Mac's IP address? Rented Macs do not have a public inbound IP, so SSH from the open internet will not work. Tailscale creates a private, encrypted network between your computer and the Mac — that is the path we recommend. Use the same Tailscale account on both devices, and use the Mac username shown in your dashboard. 1. On your computer, go to https://tailscale.com/download, install Tailscale, and sign in (a free account is enough). 2. On the rented Mac, open Safari through DeskIn, visit https://tailscale.com/download, install Tailscale for macOS, and sign in with that same account. 3. On the Mac, open System Settings → General → Sharing and turn on Remote Login. 4. On the Mac, click the Tailscale icon in the menu bar and copy the 100.x.x.x address. Or open Terminal and run: tailscale ip -4 5. From your computer, run: ssh YOUR_MAC_USERNAME@100.x.x.x — replace the username with the Mac username from your dashboard, and 100.x.x.x with the address from the previous step. - ZeroTier is a similar mesh VPN if you would rather not use Tailscale. - WireGuard and OpenVPN also work, but take more setup. - Prefer SSH keys over a password when you can. **Note:** If Remote Login shows as blocked by a configuration profile, email support@dedicatedmac.io and we can enable Tailscale SSH on your instance. DeskIn is unchanged either way. ### What macOS version is installed? Our instances currently run macOS 26 Tahoe. ## Payments & Policies Learn about our subscription plans, accepted payment methods, refund policies, and terms of service. ### Do you offer a free trial? Yes, we offer a read-only demo instance for you to evaluate our service before committing to a plan. No credit card required. ### What subscription plans do you offer, and how much do they cost? We offer flexible daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly billing options across our Standard and Ultimate tiers. Pricing starts from $15/day. Check our pricing section for full details. ### What payment methods do you accept for subscriptions? We accept payments via credit/debit cards through Stripe for your convenience. All transactions are secure and encrypted. ### Can I switch or extend my rental plan? Yes, you can switch between daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans. The transition will take effect after your current plan period expires. You can also extend your rental at any time by selecting a new payment plan — the new period starts once your current plan expires. ### Is there a minimum rental period for the Macs? The Daily Plan requires a minimum rental of 1 day. You can rent for any duration you need, whether daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly. ### Are there any additional fees or hidden costs associated with the rental? No, our pricing is transparent with no hidden fees. The cost of the subscription plan covers all aspects of the rental service. ### What is your policy on data privacy and security during the rental period? We prioritize your data security by using advanced encryption and secure server configurations. After your session, we ensure all data is removed, or, if you prefer, we can retain your data so you can resume from where you left off. ### Do you offer any discounts for long-term rentals or bulk subscriptions? Yes, we offer competitive pricing for longer rental periods. Our quarterly plan provides the best value per day. Contact us for custom bulk pricing. ### What happens if all systems are in use when I try to rent a Mac? If all systems are occupied at the time of your rental request, we will notify you immediately. If you've already made a payment, we will offer a full refund. ### Do you have an acceptable use policy for the rented Macs? Yes, we require all users to comply with our Acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits activities such as illegal file sharing, unauthorized access to other systems, and any actions that violate applicable laws or regulations. Non-compliance may result in termination of services. ### How long is the validity of the plan? The plan starts as soon as payment is completed and terminates after the plan runs out of time or upon subscription cancellation. ### If I terminate a plan, will my files and settings be stored if I purchase a plan later? No, if you decide not to renew the plan, when your subscription finishes we will wipe the Mac instance and your files will be removed. Contact us if you need data persistence options. ### How can I terminate my subscription? Access the User Portal and log in with the credentials sent to your email. Click on "Plans and Billing", then "Manage my subscription", and cancel your subscription from there. ### Is the subscription cancelable anytime, or is there a minimum term? The subscription can be canceled early, but the plan remains active until the end of the current billing period (24 hours for daily, 7 days for weekly, 31 days for monthly, or 90 days for quarterly). ### How long do I need to wait for credentials after the purchase? The instances are already running — you will be provided with your credentials immediately after payment is processed. Still stuck? DedicatedMac rents single-tenant Mac mini M4 hardware by the day, week, month, or quarter. Every customer gets a physical machine in our racks — not a slice of one, not a VM on a hypervisor, and not a container on a shared build host. We started the service because the existing options for "a Mac in the cloud" were almost all virtualized. That is fine until you need reliable timing for benchmarks, a stable machine identity for code signing, or an always-on host for an agent that must not be recycled between jobs. Those workloads need real hardware, so that is what we operate. ## What we operate Our fleet is Apple silicon Mac mini hardware housed in a Phoenix, AZ data center in the US West region. Machines are provisioned with an administrator account, reachable over an encrypted remote desktop session, and connected to a 1 Gbps link. We manage the fleet with mobile device management tooling so a machine can be restarted, re-provisioned, or fully erased on request. When a rental ends, the machine is wiped and re-imaged before it goes back into the available pool. No customer ever inherits another customer's disk. ## How we are different - Bare metal, single tenant: one customer per physical Mac for the whole rental period. - Full administrator access: install anything, change anything, run anything within our acceptable use policy. - No contracts: subscriptions are cancellable and run to the end of the paid period. - One region, stated plainly: all machines live in Phoenix, AZ. We do not claim global points of presence we do not have. - Transparent stock: the pricing page reads live inventory, and out-of-stock configurations show a waitlist instead of a checkout button. ## Who we serve Most of our customers are developers and small teams who need macOS for a specific job: shipping an iOS build, signing and notarizing binaries in CI, running a macOS-only test matrix, rendering in Final Cut Pro, or keeping an autonomous agent running around the clock on a machine they control. We are a small operation and we answer our own support email. If you need something the standard configuration does not cover — a longer term, several machines, or a custom provisioning step — write to us and you will get a real answer rather than a ticket number. ## Contact Support: support@dedicatedmac.io. Sales and custom arrangements: sales@dedicatedmac.io. Email is the fastest way to reach us, and it is monitored by the people who run the fleet. There is no phone tree and no outsourced first line. ## Support Write to support@dedicatedmac.io for anything about a machine you are already renting: a locked account, a password reset, a restart, a reinstall of macOS, a software install you cannot complete yourself, or a connection problem. Include the email address on your subscription and, if you have it, the machine name shown in your dashboard. That lets us find the instance without a round trip. ## Sales and custom requests Write to sales@dedicatedmac.io for pricing questions, bulk or long-term rentals, invoicing arrangements, or a configuration that is not listed on the pricing page. Tell us how many machines you need, for how long, and what the workload is. Hardware specification, term length, and provisioning steps are all things we can quote on. ## Billing and subscriptions Subscription changes do not need an email. Sign in to the customer portal, open Plans and Billing, and choose Manage my subscription to update payment details, switch plans, or cancel. A cancelled subscription stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. If a charge looks wrong or a refund is owed — for example if no machine was available after payment — email support@dedicatedmac.io and we will resolve it directly. ## Before you write - The FAQ covers setup, specifications, networking, macOS versions, and billing policy in detail. - The free demo lets you test remote desktop performance without an account or a card. - Port forwarding is not offered; use a tunnel such as Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnel, or ngrok. - Rented Macs have no public inbound IP, so SSH from the open internet will not work without a mesh VPN. ## Where we are Our machines are hosted in a Phoenix, AZ data center in the US West region of the United States. The data center is not open to visitors; all access to rented machines is remote. --- Canonical HTML: https://dedicatedmac.io/contact Site index for agents: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt · Full text: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt · API: https://dedicatedmac.io/openapi.json --- # Privacy Policy > What personal data DedicatedMac collects, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and what happens to the contents of a rented Mac. This policy explains what DedicatedMac collects when you visit the site, sign up, or rent a machine, and what we do with it. It covers both the website and the rented Mac instances. ## What we collect - Account and billing details: your name, email address, and the subscription you purchased. Card details are entered on Stripe's hosted checkout and are never stored on our systems. - Rental records: which machine was assigned to you, when the rental started and ended, and the credentials issued for it. - Support correspondence: the messages you send us and our replies. - Waitlist entries: your email address, optional name, and the plan you asked to be notified about. - Website analytics: pages viewed and similar aggregate usage data, collected through Google Analytics. - Error diagnostics: stack traces and request context captured when something breaks, collected through Sentry. ## Why we collect it We use this data to provision and support your machine, to take payment and issue invoices, to notify you when a machine is ready or a payment fails, to answer support requests, and to understand which parts of the site are useful. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. ## Processors we use We rely on a small number of vendors to run the service. Each one receives only the data it needs for its function: - Stripe — payment processing, subscription billing, and invoices. - Firebase Authentication — sign-in for the customer portal. - Vercel — website and application hosting. - Google Analytics — aggregate website usage measurement. - Sentry — application error monitoring. - Courier — transactional email delivery (machine ready, payment failure, offboarding). - Attio — customer relationship records for sales and waitlist follow-up. - SimpleMDM — device management for the Mac fleet, including restart, re-provisioning, and erase. - Sanity — content management for the blog. ## Your data on a rented Mac A rented Mac is yours for the rental period and you have administrator access to it. We do not inspect the contents of your disk as a matter of course. Our device management tooling can restart, re-provision, or erase a machine, and our staff can assist with a locked account or a reinstall when you ask us to. When a rental ends or a subscription is cancelled, the machine is wiped — by default using Erase All Content and Settings — before it returns to the available pool. Unless you have arranged data persistence with us in advance, treat the end of a rental as permanent deletion and take a backup first. ## Retention Billing records are retained as long as tax and accounting rules require. Account and rental records are retained while your account is open and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can answer questions about past invoices. Machine credentials are invalidated when a rental ends. Support email is retained in our mailbox. ## Your rights You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and its data to be deleted. Write to support@dedicatedmac.io from the address on your account and we will respond. Deleting an account does not remove records we are required to keep for tax purposes. You can opt out of analytics with any standard browser tracking protection or ad blocker; the site works normally without it. ## Security Remote desktop and SSH access to rented machines is encrypted. Portal sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication. Administrative actions on the fleet are restricted to our staff and logged. Payment card data never reaches our servers. If you believe you have found a security problem with the site or the service, email support@dedicatedmac.io with the details and we will look at it promptly. ## Changes and contact We will update this page if our processors or practices change. Details: https://dedicatedmac.io/docs/api ## Machine-readable files - [DedicatedMac llms.txt](https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt) (`text/plain`) — Index of the site for language models, including when to use DedicatedMac and how to call it. - [DedicatedMac llms-full.txt](https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt) (`text/plain`) — Every page of the site concatenated as Markdown, for one-shot ingestion. - [DedicatedMac agent instructions](https://dedicatedmac.io/agent-instructions.md) (`text/markdown`) — Standalone when-to-use guidance and a calling recipe for autonomous agents. - [DedicatedMac OpenAPI specification](https://dedicatedmac.io/openapi.json) (`application/json`) — OpenAPI 3.1 description of the public DedicatedMac HTTP API. - [DedicatedMac sitemap](https://dedicatedmac.io/sitemap.xml) (`application/xml`) — Every indexable URL on dedicatedmac.io. - [DedicatedMac robots.txt](https://dedicatedmac.io/robots.txt) (`text/plain`) — Crawl rules and sitemap pointer. ## Markdown content negotiation Every public page on https://dedicatedmac.io serves Markdown when you ask for it. Send `Accept: text/markdown` and you get `Content-Type: text/markdown` with `Vary: Accept`; send `Accept: text/html` (or nothing) and you get the normal HTML page. ``` curl -sS -H 'Accept: text/markdown' https://dedicatedmac.io/ curl -sS -H 'Accept: text/markdown' https://dedicatedmac.io/faq ``` Unknown paths return HTTP 404 with a Markdown error body pointing back at this documentation. ## What DedicatedMac does not offer - There is no MCP server for DedicatedMac. - There is no client SDK; the API is three plain HTTP endpoints, so use any HTTP client. - There are no API keys and no OAuth application. The public endpoints are unauthenticated, and the only credential the API understands is a Firebase ID token belonging to an existing portal account. - There is no headless purchase: POST /api/checkout returns a Stripe Checkout URL that a human must open. - There is no API for controlling a rented Mac. Restart and credential actions live in the signed-in customer portal at /dashboard. ## Support Questions about the API, or a capability you need that is not listed here: support@dedicatedmac.io. --- Canonical HTML: https://dedicatedmac.io/docs Site index for agents: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt · Full text: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt · API: https://dedicatedmac.io/openapi.json --- # DedicatedMac API Reference > OpenAPI 3.1 description of the public DedicatedMac HTTP API, plus worked curl examples. This is the same call the pricing page makes before it decides whether to show a checkout button or a waitlist button. The response is never cached; ask again immediately before starting a checkout. **Authentication:** None. Public, unauthenticated, no API key. **Request body:** none. **Responses** - `200` — Availability map keyed by SKU id. ```json { "availability": { "standard": true, "standard_plus": false, "ultimate": true } } ``` - `500` — Inventory could not be read. ```json { "error": "Unable to load availability" } ``` **Example** ```bash curl -sS https://dedicatedmac.io/api/sku-availability ``` ## `POST /api/waitlist` Join the waitlist for an out-of-stock configuration Records an email address against a specific SKU and billing period so we can notify that person when the configuration is back in stock. Public, unauthenticated, no API key. **Request body** (`application/json`) | Field | Type | Required | Description | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `sku` | string | yes | Which Mac configuration to be notified about. One of: `standard`, `standard_plus`, `ultimate`. | | `billing` | string | no | Billing period of interest. Defaults to monthly if omitted or unrecognised. One of: `daily`, `weekly`, `monthly`, `quarterly`. | | `email` | string | yes | Address to notify. Normalised to lowercase. | | `name` | string | no | Full name, used only to personalise follow-up. | **Responses** - `200` — Recorded. ```json { "ok": true } ``` - `400` — Missing or malformed sku or email. ```json { "error": "Invalid plan selection" } ``` - `500` — Unexpected server error. **Example** ```bash curl -sS -X POST https://dedicatedmac.io/api/waitlist \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -d '{"sku":"ultimate","billing":"monthly","email":"you@example.com"}' ``` ## `POST /api/checkout` Create a Stripe Checkout session for a rental Creates a Stripe subscription Checkout session and returns its hosted URL. The caller (or the end user) must open that URL in a browser to enter payment details; there is no headless purchase path. Daily billing is priced but not self-serve — contact sales for it. M6 supports weekly or monthly billing. If the SKU is out of stock the call fails with 409; use POST /api/waitlist for M4 or POST /api/waitlist/m6 for M6. **Authentication:** Optional. Send `Authorization: Bearer ` to bind the session to a signed-in portal account; the token's email then overrides the email in the body. Without a token the call is anonymous and the supplied email is not treated as proof of ownership. **Request body** (`application/json`) | Field | Type | Required | Description | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `sku` | string | yes | Mac generation and configuration to rent. One of: `standard`, `standard_plus`, `ultimate`, `m6_standard`, `m6_ultimate`. | | `billing` | string | yes | Billing period. One of: `daily`, `weekly`, `monthly`, `quarterly`. | | `email` | string | yes | Billing email. Ignored when a valid Firebase ID token is supplied. | | `name` | string | no | Full name passed to Stripe as the customer name. | **Responses** - `200` — Session created. Open `url` in a browser to pay. ```json { "url": "https://checkout.stripe.com/c/pay/cs_live_..." } ``` - `400` — Invalid plan selection or invalid email. ```json { "error": "Invalid plan selection" } ``` - `409` — That configuration is out of stock; join the waitlist instead. ```json { "error": "This configuration is currently out of stock. Join the waitlist to get notified." } ``` - `500` — Stripe or catalog error. **Example** ```bash curl -sS -X POST https://dedicatedmac.io/api/checkout \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -d '{"sku":"standard","billing":"monthly","email":"you@example.com"}' ``` ## Not available - There is no MCP server for DedicatedMac. --- Canonical HTML: https://dedicatedmac.io/docs/api Site index for agents: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt · Full text: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt · API: https://dedicatedmac.io/openapi.json --- # DedicatedMac Blog > Tips, guides, and insights on Mac development, CI/CD, Xcode builds, iOS development, AI workflows and agents, and getting the most from your dedicated Mac in the cloud. - [How to Set Up OpenClaw on a Mac Mini](https://dedicatedmac.io/blog/how-to-set-up-openclaw-on-mac-mini) — 2026-03-05 · AI & Development Turn a Mac Mini into a personal AI agent that runs 24/7. Step-by-step setup for OpenClaw on Apple Silicon — installer, permissions, daemon, headless mode, and the gotchas that'll save you an hour. I spent a weekend turning a Mac Mini into a personal AI agent that runs around the clock. No cloud subscription. No monthly bill beyond API costs. Just a small silver box on my desk that reads my messages, manages files, browses the web, and runs code on its own. That's OpenClaw. And getting it running is easier than you'd think, but there are a few gotchas that'll cost you an hour if you don't know about them upfront. I'll walk you through the whole thing. > **SUCCESS:** Don't have a Mac Mini? DedicatedMac gives you a dedicated Mac mini M4 in the cloud with full admin access. Same setup steps as a local machine — no hardware to buy. View plans and get connected in minutes. ## The fastest way: let Claude set it up for you If you don't feel like reading a guide, there's a shortcut. Download Claude Desktop, open Cowork mode, and tell it: "Install and set up OpenClaw on this Mac." That's it. Cowork has Terminal access and can run bash commands directly on your machine. It'll handle the install script, walk you through the onboarding prompts, configure the daemon, and even tweak your energy settings for 24/7 headless operation. You still need to toggle three macOS permissions yourself (System Settings won't let anything do that for you), but Claude tells you exactly which ones to flip and waits for confirmation before moving on. Five minutes, tops. If you'd rather understand each step and do it yourself, keep reading. But if you just want it done? Claude + Cowork is the move. ## Why a Mac Mini? Quick context if you're weighing your options. OpenClaw runs on Linux, Windows (via WSL2), and macOS. But the Mac Mini has become the default choice for a reason. Apple Silicon gives you fast inference if you ever want to run local models. The machine sips power (under 10W at idle), runs silent, and macOS handles sleep/wake better than most Linux boxes for always-on operation. Peter Steinberger, who built OpenClaw, developed it on a Mac. So macOS is the most polished experience. The base M4 Mac Mini starts at $600. One-time cost, and the base model (16GB RAM, 256GB storage) is more than enough. OpenClaw itself uses maybe 2–3GB of RAM. The rest is headroom. Don't have a Mac Mini and don't want to buy one just for this? You can rent a dedicated M4 Mac Mini in the cloud with DedicatedMac. Full admin access, same setup steps as a local machine — ideal for developing and testing your AI agent before committing to hardware. > **INFO:** Run OpenClaw on a dedicated Mac mini M4 in the cloud. DedicatedMac offers weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans. No hardware needed — just remote in and follow this guide. View plans. ## Setting up OpenClaw on your Mac Mini The whole install takes about 10 minutes. Maybe less. But don't skip steps or you'll end up debugging permissions for longer than the install took. ### Step 1: Open Terminal and run the installer One command: ```bash curl -fsSL https://openclaw.ai/install.sh | bash ``` This does three things: checks for Node.js 22+ (installs it if you don't have it), installs the OpenClaw CLI globally, and launches the onboarding wizard. If you already have Node.js and prefer doing it by hand: ```bash npm install -g openclaw@latest ``` ### Step 2: Walk through onboarding The wizard asks you a few things. Which LLM provider you want (OpenAI, Anthropic, local, etc.). Your API key. What messaging channels to connect. Your timezone. Basic stuff. Don't overthink the channel selection here. You can add more later. Start with one channel (e.g. Telegram) and add WhatsApp or Slack once the basics are working. ### Step 3: Grant macOS permissions This is where most people get stuck. OpenClaw needs three permissions to work properly. Not two. Not one. All three. - Full Disk Access — so it can read and write files across your system - Accessibility access — so it can click, type, and control apps - Screen Recording — so it can grab screenshots and see what's on screen Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and add Terminal (or whatever terminal app you use) to each of those three categories. Here's the part that trips everyone up. After you toggle those permissions on, you have to restart Terminal. The permissions won't kick in until you do. I've seen people spend 45 minutes troubleshooting "permission denied" errors because they never closed and reopened Terminal. On macOS Sequoia (15+), there's an extra quirk. If you're running headless and need screen control, you may also need to enable Screen Sharing manually in System Settings > General > Sharing. The command-line route alone can fall short on Sequoia sometimes. ### Step 4: Install the daemon If you just want to test OpenClaw, you can run it in your terminal session. But for 24/7 operation on a Mac Mini, you want the daemon: ```bash openclaw onboard --install-daemon ``` This installs the Gateway as a background service. It survives terminal closures, restarts, and even sleeps (with the right energy settings). The Gateway is the backend engine — the brain that stays running. Any messaging apps or the macOS menu bar client just connect to it. The full install takes about 10 minutes from first command to running daemon. ## Running headless (no monitor) Most people buying a Mac Mini for OpenClaw aren't plugging in a monitor. They want a little server sitting on a shelf. So there's one more thing you should know. Get an HDMI dummy plug. It's a small dongle you plug into the HDMI port that tricks macOS into thinking a display is connected. Without it, macOS can behave oddly in headless mode: Screen Recording permissions can break, GUI apps may not render correctly, and the screen capture OpenClaw relies on can fail. Also tweak your energy settings: - System Settings > Energy > Turn off display sleep - Turn off hard disk sleep - Enable Power Nap - Check "Start up automatically after a power failure" Those four settings are the difference between a Mac Mini that runs 24/7 and one that goes to sleep at 2am and stops responding to your messages. ## Connecting messaging channels This is the fun part. OpenClaw has no app of its own (there's a menu bar client, but that's not the point). You talk to it through your existing messaging apps. Supported channels include WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Google Chat, Signal, iMessage (via BlueBubbles), Microsoft Teams, Matrix, Zalo, and WebChat. Text works everywhere. Media support and reactions vary by channel. Start with one channel. Get comfortable with how OpenClaw responds, how to give it tasks, and how permissions and file access work. Then add more channels once you've figured out your workflow. Each channel has its own guide in the docs at docs.openclaw.ai/channels/. Some are a single OAuth click (Slack, Discord). Others take more work (WhatsApp requires a bridge, iMessage needs BlueBubbles running on the same Mac). ## A few things I learned the hard way - **The sharp module issue. If you're on Node.js v22.22.0 or later and the install fails with a node-gyp error, that's a known bug with the sharp image processing library. Downgrade to Node 22.21.x or check the GitHub issues for the latest workaround.** - **"command not found: openclaw" after install. Restart your terminal. The PATH is updated during install but your current session won't pick it up.** - **Non-admin accounts and Homebrew. If you're running OpenClaw on a standard (non-admin) macOS user for security reasons, install Homebrew dependencies from the admin account first. Then switch to the standard account and run openclaw doctor to verify everything works.** Start small. OpenClaw can do a lot — it writes code, browses the web, manages files, runs scheduled tasks, builds its own skills. You can even pair it with local AI tools like Whisper for transcription or DeepSeek for local inference. But pick one thing first. Send it a message asking about the weather. Have it summarize a PDF. Then go from there. The Discord (discord.gg/openclaw) is packed with workflow examples if you need ideas. ## What's next for OpenClaw Peter Steinberger announced in February 2026 that he's joining OpenAI to scale OpenClaw further. The project stays MIT-licensed and open source. If anything, that means more resources behind it, not fewer. The project has seen massive adoption — an active community shipping skills and extensions every day. And you can run the whole thing on a Mac Mini sitting in your closet. If you hit any snags, openclaw doctor catches most config issues. And the Discord (discord.gg/openclaw) is the fastest place to get unstuck. --- Canonical HTML: https://dedicatedmac.io/blog/how-to-set-up-openclaw-on-mac-mini Site index for agents: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt · Full text: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt --- # How to Use Xcode on Windows: A Complete Guide for iOS Developers By DedicatedMac Team · 2026-02-26 · iOS Development > You can't install Xcode natively on Windows — but you can absolutely access it. This guide covers every practical method, from renting a dedicated Mac in the cloud to virtual machines and cross-platform tools. You can't install Xcode natively on Windows — but you absolutely can access and use it. Whether you rent a dedicated Mac in the cloud, run macOS in a virtual machine, or use cross-platform tools, there are real, working paths to iOS development from a Windows PC. > **INFO:** Skip the setup headaches. DedicatedMac gives you a bare-metal Mac mini M4 in the cloud, ready to run Xcode in minutes. No hardware needed, no Hackintosh, no VM bottlenecks. Xcode is Apple's official integrated development environment (IDE) for building iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS applications. It ships with a code editor, interface builder, iOS simulator, debugging instruments, and the tools required to sign and publish apps to the App Store. Because Xcode is deeply integrated with macOS frameworks, Apple Silicon libraries, and system-level APIs, it simply isn't available as a Windows download. Apple also restricts official iOS app development to macOS as a deliberate part of its platform strategy — which means there is no legitimate 'Xcode for Windows' installer, and any third-party site claiming to offer one is distributing unsafe or pirated software. This guide covers every practical method developers use today, with an honest look at the tradeoffs of each. ## Methods to Use Xcode on Windows ### 1. Rent a Dedicated Mac in the Cloud (Recommended) The fastest and most reliable path is connecting to a remote Mac over the internet. DedicatedMac provides dedicated Mac mini M4 machines hosted in a secure, enterprise-grade data center in Phoenix, Arizona. Once your plan is active, you connect via remote desktop from your Windows PC and run Xcode exactly as you would on a physical Mac — full admin access, no virtual machines, no shared hardware. **Why this works best:** - Fully legal and compliant with Apple's licensing terms - True bare-metal Apple Silicon M4 performance — no virtualization overhead - Works from any Windows PC, no hardware upgrades required - Handles Xcode builds, iOS simulators, and CI/CD pipelines with ease - Ready in minutes after purchase — credentials delivered instantly - Weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans — pay only for what you need The primary consideration is a recurring fee, but it's significantly cheaper than buying a new Mac outright. For a one-week iOS project, a short-term DedicatedMac plan costs a fraction of what you'd spend on hardware — and you return it when you're done. > **SUCCESS:** Ready to get started? DedicatedMac offers dedicated Mac mini M4 machines from $99/month. View plans at dedicatedmac.io and get connected in minutes. ### 2. Run macOS in a Virtual Machine You can set up a virtual machine (VM) running macOS using software like VMware Workstation or Oracle VirtualBox. Once macOS is installed inside the VM, you can install Xcode normally and begin development. This approach works in principle, but performance is the critical downside. Both operating systems share your CPU, RAM, and storage — which means running Xcode simulators inside a VM is sluggish on most consumer PCs. You'll need at least 16 GB of RAM and a modern multicore CPU to get usable performance. There's also a legal gray area: Apple's license agreement restricts macOS to Apple hardware. **Best for: **Developers with a powerful PC who want to experiment without any recurring cost and don't mind the performance tradeoffs. ### 3. Hackintosh Setup A Hackintosh is a non-Apple computer configured to run macOS natively. With the right hardware and installation steps, macOS runs directly on your machine rather than inside a VM, delivering much better real-world performance. The tradeoff is significant complexity. Setting up a Hackintosh requires deep technical knowledge, careful hardware compatibility research, and ongoing maintenance. macOS updates frequently break Hackintosh configurations, which can leave your development environment unusable until a fix is found. Like the VM approach, it operates in a legal gray area with Apple's terms of service. **Best for: **Technically advanced developers with compatible hardware who enjoy the challenge and don't mind the maintenance overhead. ### 4. Cross-Platform Tools + Final Build on Mac If you want to write the majority of your code on Windows and only use macOS for final compilation and App Store submission, cross-platform frameworks are a practical middle ground. **Popular options:** - Flutter (Google): Write in Dart and compile to native iOS and Android. Popular for its hot-reload feature and strong community support. - React Native (Meta): Build cross-platform apps with JavaScript and React. Used in production by Instagram, Shopify, and many others. - Xamarin (Microsoft): Share C# and .NET code across iOS, Android, and Windows while still accessing native platform APIs. - Codemagic & Expo: Cloud CI/CD platforms that automate iOS builds server-side — write code on Windows and push through their servers for iOS compilation. The hard limit of this approach: final App Store builds still require Xcode for provisioning, code signing, and submission. You'll need access to a Mac at some point. For developers using cross-platform tools, a short-term DedicatedMac rental for the final submission sprint is an ideal fit. ## How to Choose the Right Method ### When to rent a Mac in the cloud - You need a stable, production-ready Xcode environment right now - You're working on a real client project or App Store launch - You want full Apple Silicon M4 performance without buying hardware - You don't want to deal with VM configuration, Hackintosh maintenance, or legal gray areas - You need a clean, dedicated machine that no one else has access to ### When a virtual machine makes sense - You want to experiment or prototype with zero recurring cost - You have a high-spec PC (16+ GB RAM, modern multicore CPU) and can absorb the performance hit - The project isn't time-sensitive or performance-critical ### When cross-platform tools are the right fit - You're building for both iOS and Android simultaneously - The majority of your development cycle can stay on Windows and Linux - You're comfortable using a rented Mac occasionally for final builds and App Store submissions ## What Is Xcode, Exactly? Xcode is Apple's official integrated development environment and the only officially supported toolchain for building, signing, testing, and submitting apps for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. **Key features:** - Code editor with syntax highlighting, autocompletion, and refactoring for Swift, Objective-C, and C/C++ - Interface Builder — a drag-and-drop UI design tool for building native interfaces visually - iOS Simulator — test your app on virtual iPhones and iPads without needing physical devices - Instruments — a powerful performance profiling and debugging toolkit - App Signing & Provisioning — the required step to run apps on real Apple devices and publish to the App Store Apple uses Xcode to enforce quality, security, and performance standards for every app in the App Store. Regardless of what tools you use to write code on Windows, the final steps of compilation, signing, and distribution must always go through Xcode running on macOS. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### How can I use Xcode on Windows without buying a Mac? The easiest and most reliable option is a cloud Mac rental service like DedicatedMac. You connect via remote desktop from any Windows PC and run Xcode exactly as you would on local hardware — with full admin access and Apple Silicon M4 performance. ### What is the best method to develop iOS apps on Windows? For most developers, renting a remote dedicated Mac is the most practical and reliable path. It's legally compliant, fast to set up, and gives you real Mac hardware without the upfront cost or maintenance overhead. ### Is it safe to download Xcode for Windows from third-party sites? No. Apple does not publish a Windows version of Xcode. Any site offering 'Xcode for Windows' is distributing modified, pirated, or malware-infected software. The only safe and legitimate way to get Xcode is through the Mac App Store on macOS. ### Can I develop macOS and iOS apps on Windows? You can write code on Windows using cross-platform tools, but you need macOS to build, sign, test, and ship a real iOS or macOS app. A dedicated cloud Mac solves this without requiring you to own Apple hardware. ### Is a Hackintosh a good approach for Xcode development? It's technically impressive but comes with real drawbacks: significant setup complexity, hardware compatibility requirements, frequent breakage after macOS updates, and a gray area with Apple's terms of service. For professional development work, a reliable dedicated Mac rental is a more practical and less stressful choice. --- Canonical HTML: https://dedicatedmac.io/blog/how-to-use-xcode-on-windows Site index for agents: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms.txt · Full text: https://dedicatedmac.io/llms-full.txt
